Moving on from my comfort zone.

14 Apr

Since starting my weight loss journey in March 2009, I have lost 14-16kg (without/with carb water retention). Working out with EJ brought me great success, E was genuinely concerned with my meal plan and weight loss progress, it felt real, his motivation each time a kg was lost kept me going. The programme was fun, the people (K, A, the two Js, the three Cs) all kept me motivated and raring to go. There was an anticipation each time I went for to the gym, people gave a damn. Somewhere along the way, I lost my footing and was sidelined by bad eating habits, not enough consistence with my workout routine which well, became routine. E left and was replaced by C and to be honest, it just is not the same. The sense of camaraderie is lost by no fault of C and coupled by my general boredom with the programme, things have not changed. No one is interested anymore with what or how I do which loses an accountability and mostly, I no longer am motivated by my work out routine. Also, I am more interested in things that I could not do before – hiking, climbing, cycling, running etc. Yes, all steady state cardio which conflicts what I do in my regular workout but, serves as a good distraction.

Made a difficult call to E to ask him for his valued opinion because I fear leaving a routine that has brought me so much success. I related my concerns to him because I truly care what he feels and feels as he was instrumental in my weight loss. Even now, he was so helpful and addressed the concerns that I had. Now, I will look to sit or attend another session at the potential new place and make my choice before the month is out.

I struggle

12 Apr

With putting up my weight and statistics in being public. Absolutely crystal clear and open on this journal. That said, it is the exact purpose why I started this blog. To put pen to paper, proverbially that is and to see everything as it should be.

People say "Oh, but it’s only a number!" Well, it’s MY number and it is my struggle.

On 16 March, I started working out with E and J. Less than a week later, I decide to take measurements because I wanted to make sure that I had a clear guide of my progression or regression (depending on how you look at things). I decided that I was going to re-visit those numbers in a month.

Of course, because I am physically incapable of sticking to deadlines, this morning I decided to take out that journal to do my measurements again because, the scale weight has not been as motivating as I thought it would be. A sign that I obviously watch WAY too much "The Biggest Loser" where "reality" isn’t real.

Measurements (in inches) as of 22 March / 12 April (more…)

Fitness Week 2

23 Mar

The first week of HIIT has been relatively tough. Finding middle ground is what is proving to be the challenge. Day 1, I pushed myself too hard and almost fainted. Day 3, I was so afraid of fainting, I did not really push myself. With the lack of afterburn, I really felt guilty and pushed myself more on Day 6. With a day of rest in between that and today, I think I got the right amount of burn on Day 6. I could possibly push myself more (more…)
